Ulrich Is Hard Worker
www.SavagePacer.com | Savage Pacer
I’d like you to know something on a personal level about our Scott County Commissioner Jon Ulrich. Jon is not afraid to do hard work, out of the limelight and away from the crowd. He doesn’t need compliments or applause to keep on working hard to serve you and I. Want an example? For fourteen years Jon has been making his way over to the Scott County Jail, frequently alone, to lead church services for the inmates. He often delivers a talk on the choices we make and the friends we keep. He points out that the inmates stay in jail may be like a gift that shouts out, “Stop, its never too late to turn around and change your course in life.” Jon has seen lots of course corrections over the years and that’s enough for him. Why is this important? Jon carries this same attitude of hard work and committed service into all that he does working to serve you as your County Commissioner. I couldn’t be happier with the work that he has done serving us, and I encourage you to vote to re-elect Jon Ulrich as your Scott County Commissioner.

Ulrich Has Strong Transportation Record
www.savage pacer.com | Savage Pacer
As the former deputy commissioner/chief engineer of the Minnesota Department of Transportation, I have worked with and watched Scott County Commissioner Jon Ulrich patiently gain experience and understanding of transportation issues that impact our region, Scott County and his community of Savage.
As Jon has invested hundreds of hours of time in transportation committee meetings, he has built relationships, earned the right to be heard, and gained influence with other transportation advocates in our region. When we at the DOT committed to advance the construction of the 169/494 interchange, Jon was well positioned to lead the debate on the Metropolitan Council Transportation Advisory Board that secured a critical and significant piece of funding that allowed the interchange to be funded and built. He worked with me in advocating for an innovative flexible design which ultimately saved the project and taxpayers $30 million. The construction of the 169/494 interchange removed a transportation bottleneck, improved safety, and reduced congestion in the entire southwest region of the metropolitan area. This project has saved the residents of Scott County and Savage countless hours of time and helped foster $450 million of new business development and add 3,500 livable wage jobs in Scott County in just the last two years.
I do believe leadership and experience does matter and Scott County Commissioner Jon Ulrich has invested years and countless hours working with regional partners, so that he can serve you well advocating for your transportation needs.

Ulrich Commended For SCALE Work
www.savage pacer.com | Savage Pacer
I am very impressed with the work and record of accomplishment of Jon Ulrich, our Scott County Commissioner. He is a leader with fresh ideas who is not afraid to try something new.
Jon is one of the founding members of Scott County Association For Leadership And Efficiency, otherwise know as SCALE. This is a gathering of our local officials from all across Scott County that considers how to make government more efficient, and less costly in the work we expect them to accomplish. Over the years, through SCALE, the culture among our elective officials has changed from being competitive to cooperative. The question that Jon and the members of SCALE want to answer is, "How can we better serve the public together?" You won't find the typical partisan bickering among our SCALE leaders. What a breath of fresh air that is.
This attitude of cooperation that Jon has helped foster has saved you and I, as taxpayers, a lot of time and money. When Jon rallied our leaders to come down to the Met Council to testify on behalf of fixing the congested interchange at 494 & 169 each leader responded as one voice. This led to the project getting funded, which was followed by 450 million dollars of new business investment and 3,500 new livable wage jobs being added in our county. SCALE and Jon Ulrich have made attracting business development and the addition of livable wage jobs one of their highest priorities and they want to see that our residents will be able to find a livable wage job within our County.
As a past chair of SCALE (twice) and the chair elect for next year Jon is devoted to these efforts. Jon Ulrich has my enthusiastic support as he seeks re-election as our Scott County Commissioner.

Ulrich Is Innovative Leader
www.savage pacer.com | Savage Pacer
I am writing in support of Scott Commissioner Jon Ulrich's re-election. I have known Jon for some time and can attest to his ability as a leader who finds innovative ways to solve the many issues facing our county today. He understands what government can do to improve people's lives, as well as what must be done outside of government.
Jon was a leader in partnering with the Faith community, service groups, non-profit organizations, local governments and business to create the Families and Individuals Sharing Hope "FISH" organization. Today FISH meets the needs of families and individuals through collaborating with hundreds of organizations in its partner network. This outside the box approach to assisting families and individuals in need often enables this group to meet needs even before government sees them. By working together with hundreds of partner organizations, FISH is able to meet real needs right now and make it possible for individuals to live healthy transformed lives.
The innovative way that FISH meets human needs has won both state and national awards. Jurisdictions from around the country are now calling and asking how they can replicate the FISH model in their community. We need the commitment, experience, and creativity of Jon Ulrich on our County Board. Please join me in voting to re-elect Jon Ulrich as our County Commissioner.

Ulrich Supports Parks
www.savage pacer.com | Savage Pacer
As the former superintendent of Three Rivers Park District, I worked closely with Scott County Commissioner Jon Ulrich for more than seven years as our two agencies developed a joint partnership to develop, operate and maintain regional parks and trails in Scott County. Jon consistently played an instrumental role in assuring that the existing regional parks would continue to thrive, while advocating for new park properties to be brought on-line within the budgets adopted by the county and the park district.
Jon served on the Joint Policy Committee that provided oversight and direction for the regional parks in Scott County, where he worked with Three Rivers’ board members to help frame the priorities for funding, sustaining and improving Cleary Lake, Murphy-Hanrehan and Cedar Lake Farm regional parks.
Jon’s leadership and dedication were never more apparent than when he spearheaded the efforts with multiple government agencies that eventually brought Spring Lake Regional Park to life for the enjoyment of residents of Scott County, Savage and the entire region.
I believe that Jon’s proven experience, dedication and leadership are strong evidence that his highest priority is serving the public, and I encourage you to allow Jon to continue serving Scott County residents by re-electing him as county commissioner.

Ulrich Has Good Jobs Record
www.savage pacer.com | Savage Pacer
The numbers are in and once again Scott County leads the metropolitan area with the lowest unemployment rate at just 3.3 percent. In the past two years alone, Scott County has seen 450 million dollars of new business development and the addition of 3,500 livable wage jobs. These impressive numbers would not have been possible without the improvement of our transportation infrastructure. Many of these new employers cited the construction of the interchange and removal of the congestion bottleneck at 494 & 169 as the significant reason for their deciding to locate in Scott County. It was Scott County Commissioner Jon Ulrich that led the debate on the Metropolitan Council Transportation Advisory Board that secured vital funding for this project, allowing it to be built. Jon believes that a congestion free highway system is essential to our ongoing success in growing the economy in our State, County and his community of Savage.
But Jon’s efforts have not ended there. Through his work on the Scott County Transportation And Economic Development Committee and First Stop Shop, he has worked to streamline and simplify the development process and develop a customer service culture that warmly greets and works with all those who are interested in locating or expanding their business in Scott County. Jon’s goal is to see that everyone in our community can find a quality job within Scott County. That’s an ambitious goal, but one he believes is well worth pursuing. Please join me in voting for Scott County Commissioner Jon Ulrich so that he can help keep our County moving forward.

Challenging The Metropolitan Council’s Plans
www. savagepacer.com | Savage Pacer
This past week the five counties of Scott, Carver, Anoka, Washington and Dakota Counties met together as one group in an unprecedented meeting with the Metropolitan Council. The Metropolitan Council is now in the process of creating a plan that will cripple our regional highway system at the expense of bike paths and transit-way investments in the urban core. They want to over invest in highly subsidized transit-ways and bike paths, spending billions of dollars, and call our congested highway system complete. From 2014 to 2022 their plan calls for just 72 million dollars to be invested annually to relieve congestion on our regional highways.
The Metropolitan Council’s plan creates real winners and real losers in our region. The winners will be Minneapolis and St. Paul and the losers will be the rest of the region of suburban cities and counties of our metropolitan area. There was one leader that challenged all of us to come together to speak up and air our concerns to the Metropolitan Council. That leader was Scott County Commissioner Jon Ulrich. He believes that the Metropolitan Councils plan is short sighted and lacks a vision that will keep our economy growing. It came as no surprise to me that Jon Ulrich was selected as our spokesman when we met together to challenge the Metropolitan Council’s plans. During his tenure on the County Board, Jon Ulrich has consistently demonstrated the leadership that is needed to be a voice that is heard in our region. He is a man of integrity and conviction that others listen to and respect.
We need Jon Ulrich’s leadership on our County Board. I am enthusiastically encouraging the voters of Savage to re-elect Jon Ulrich to the County Board so that he can continue to serve you well.

Ulrich Has Worked To Keep Our Community Safe
You can’t look at the newspaper or watch the evening news without hearing about some new or looming threat to our society. Do you ever wonder who is making plans in the event that a real danger reaches Scott County?
Our County and Scott County Commissioner Jon Ulrich have been working long and hard to prepare for and respond to any threat, danger, or emergency we might encounter. Jon led efforts at the state legislature testifying for our need for a regional public safety training center in Scott County, which has since become a reality. Now, every law enforcement agency, fire, or public works department in our County is able to train and prepare for any emergency that we might face.
But the work of improving our safety does not stop there. Jon Ulrich has been a leader in working to see that dangerous roads and intersections throughout our County are brought up to modern safety standards. Safety enhancements have been made on our roads throughout the County and in our community of Savage so that you and your family are protected.
Jon Ulrich has also been a strong advocate for the new Code Red warning system that alerts us in advance of an approaching severe storm or threat of any other kind. Now, we all have the ability to stay informed and not be caught off guard. We’ve also heard about threats to our society from viruses such as Ebola or H1N1. Jon Ulrich serves on the Scott County All Hazards Committee where all our health care and emergency preparedness professionals are constantly working together to prepare for any such emergencies.
This fall, I encourage you to vote for Scott County Commissioner Jon Ulrich. He has been a leader in working to keep our community safe.
