As the former deputy commissioner/chief engineer of the Minnesota Department of Transportation, I have worked with and watched Scott County Commissioner Jon Ulrich patiently gain experience and understanding of transportation issues that impact our region, Scott County and his community of Savage.
As Jon has invested hundreds of hours of time in transportation committee meetings, he has built relationships, earned the right to be heard, and gained influence with other transportation advocates in our region. When we at the DOT committed to advance the construction of the 169/494 interchange, Jon was well positioned to lead the debate on the Metropolitan Council Transportation Advisory Board that secured a critical and significant piece of funding that allowed the interchange to be funded and built. He worked with me in advocating for an innovative flexible design which ultimately saved the project and taxpayers $30 million. The construction of the 169/494 interchange removed a transportation bottleneck, improved safety, and reduced congestion in the entire southwest region of the metropolitan area. This project has saved the residents of Scott County and Savage countless hours of time and helped foster $450 million of new business development and add 3,500 livable wage jobs in Scott County in just the last two years.
I do believe leadership and experience does matter and Scott County Commissioner Jon Ulrich has invested years and countless hours working with regional partners, so that he can serve you well advocating for your transportation needs.
